Mr Mom

Well today completes my seven days alone with the kids. I’ll have to admit to being a tad nervous last Sunday when we left Heather at the airport. Since the kids were born, at most, I’ve spent maybe two days babysitting.

So it was something of a shock, that this seven days was not all that bad! The big unknown was Sierra. She is most definitely a momma’s girl. Being extremely close to Heather, she had me worried that we would not be able to even get out of the airport without a scene. Incredibly, she said her goodbyes, and left with no tears shed! What’s more, the rest of the week, there was no crying on this issue (other issues yes, but not this one). As Heather said last night on IM, she’s five now.

Reflecting on the past week, I did enjoy the quality time with the kids. We went to the Puyallup fair, ate out a lot, and hit some playgrounds. They got to check out a couple of blockbuster movies of their choice and got in a lot of playing time with their friends here at the apartment. For my part, I also had a full week of movie rentals checked out (blockbuster and the library.) I kept on top of the dishes and the laundry, and gave the house a going over each night to keep the toy clutter to a minimum. I tried to get the kids in bed by 8:30 each night, so I could watch a movie.

The things I really missed, were my walks each morning, and the bookstore/cappacino runs I make a couple of times a week. I actually read more than usual (finished The Da Vinci Code), and surfed the internet more. I installed yahoo instant messenger on the laptop (she took it with her) and enjoyed IM’ing with Heather each night. We both have cell phones, but for some reason we IM’ed instead!?

This whole trip thing started when I took off for a week to Panama (the country) last year. A buddy of mine invited me to go with him and stay in his hotel (he owns it!) gratis. Going off for a week by myself was so nice, I had to offer the same to Heather. The deal was, she could go anywhere she wanted for a week, all expenses paid. She gratfully accepted, and hence, a new tradition was borne.

Of course, Heather picked Salt Lake City. This was a no brainer for her, because she’s a genealogist. She spent her entire week at the Family History Library. She did take off early one night to go see a play called The Full Monty. Maybe she’ll explain it again when she gets home, but I wasn’t really clear why she had to spend the extra money for the front row seats (g).

So the weeks over, and the kids are excited about seeing Mom today. They’re not the only ones!
