Blogging topics

I’ve been drawing a blank lately about what to write. I know what I like reading, and I try to write like that. For example:

Positive traits:
1) Just written, ie, fresh.
2) Original thoughts. A new spin on a old topic.
3) Humorous.
4) Knowing the blog author. I know Hanje, and look forward to her posts. John’s posts are a part of my morning routine now. (I don’t know John, but we’ve exchanged a few emails.)
5) Blog entries about blogging. John just wrote one a few days ago. After reading the title (How Blogging Has Changed My Life) I remember thinking: “he wrote about blogging. cool!” Hanje wrote a good one a few weeks ago. Even the one I wrote on blogging seems to get the most hits on my stats page.

Negative traits:
1) Regurgitation of the news. There are so many sites that discuss the news. Ugh.
2) Teenager sites that use “cool” misspellings of words. Normally, I wouldn’t mention this, but there are so many of them it’s amazing.
3) Posts with a few words and a link.

In an effort to have a new blog entry every few days, I created a “Blog Rough Drafts” folder on my computer where I keep one file for each topic I might write. Some files are just a file name, others are completely written, but have been rejected. I thought it would be fun to show you what’s in the pipeline:

empathy.txt, written and rejected…too sappy
humanbrain.txt, fascinating stuff i want to share.
nullA.txt, a concept that i don’t think anyone knows about. may yet write this one.
quentin8.txt, quentins 8th birthday. couldn’t write it, too emotional.
roustabout.txt, talking about my summer jobs.
slowdown.txt, talking about driving and living life.
topics.txt, this blog post. it existed before, but i deleted everything in it. So you can rest assured that this blog entry is fresh(G).
treasure hunting.txt, a pleasant side activity.
typeA.txt, talking about my type A attributes.

Since I’m not going to write it, here’s the blurb that’s in Quentin8.txt:

“My little boy is 8 today. This is making me depressed. It’s strange that my own birthdays don’t phase me, but Quentin’s getting older is killing me. I see his baby pictures and it just seems like yesterday. The good news is that he’s not 18 yet.”

I tried to write that back on Oct 9, but I’m not good at those kinds of posts and gave up.

So the bottom line is, I’ve got ideas, but none of them are exciting me enough to sit down and write about.

PS: this blog entry satisfies 1)- 5) above, if you know me and you find this PS humorous.
