Quentin once again said he didn’t want to go to PE class. We’re not sure why. It could be that he doesn’t want to take a class with Sierra. It could be he doesn’t like the structure. It could be that he likes being at home. He plays Nintendo and computer games way too much in my opinion. But Heather and I do not put limits on this type of activity. Why? We think it will burn out of it’s own accord. Neither of our children watch much TV, even though they can watch as much as they want.
It didn’t dawn on me until today that he’s acting just like me! I don’t watch much TV, even though I could if I wanted to. I do use the computer a lot. I do play computer games. I will stick to one game and play it obsessively until I master it. Then i’ll dump it, and not play it anymore. And I don’t really go out much, or wouldn’t if Heather didn’t force me. I enjoy being out once I get out, and Quentin is the same way. Whenever he’s out, he likes being out.
Then I started thinking “why do i think Q needs to go to PE class?” Well, physical activity, structured or unstructured, connects neurons, not to mention the cardiovascular benefits. So why doesn’t this same logic apply to me? Answer: It does.
Bottom line: If I want Q playing sports, I need to start playing a round of golf every now and then, and taking him along. They watch everything that you do. You can’t fool them and tell them to do something you aren’t doing!
