I don’t want my blog to turn into a hiking journal or something, but i’ll risk one more post…
I’m slowly becoming obsessed with this little “hill” close to my house. Named Safford peak, but affectionately known as Sombrero peak around Tucson, it’s 3500 feet high. My house is at 2200, so it’s roughly a 1300 foot climb. This time, I tried reverse psychology and stated up front that I was going “just to scout around,” ie, not to climb to the top. Well the reverse psychology didn’t work. I STILL didn’t make it to the top. But I got very close.
I went with my friend Mike this time. Here’s a shot I took of him and the peak at the closest approach. I know it looks like we could go the rest of the way, but what you can’t see is the dropoff behind Mike.
The hike down proved to be a tad dangerous. We both got down safely, but I cut my hand pretty good when I stepped wrong on some loose rocks. But I’ll survive. Mike got down unscathed.
