I have a confession to make…I’ve been reading the newspaper. If you’ve read my earlier blog entries, you know I am opposed to mainstream news because it is so negative and fear mongering. And, I believe, reading things everyday that inspire fear makes us, the populace, give in to things like the patriot act.
For example, a few days ago, I started reading about a baby that was taken to the hospital by it’s grandparents, where it was determined that the poor thing had been “shaken.” The father was taken into custody. The baby, just a day or so ago, died. You know, I know this stuff happens. And I’m almost brought to tears reading about it. I simply don’t want to know about it. My view is that both bad and good stuff happens. The good stuff happens MUCH more than the bad stuff. Orders of magnitudes more. But the newspaper and the network newscasts only give us the bad stuff. Which makes us subconsciencely think nothing but bad stuff happens.
Anyway, back to my main point, I’m in my new house now (since Feb 1) , and gosh darn if they haven’t been delivering a damn newspaper everyday. I can’t stop reading the darn thing. I’m back into my old routine of coffee and paper every morning, and, I might add, looking forward to it! So, I’m a hypocrite. I admit it. I will say that if the Arizona Daily Star ever figures out I am not a paying customer, and stops giving me a daily paper, I will NOT subscribe myself.
The sections I love reading are the science stories, the obit’s, the want ads, and of course the business and lifestyle sections. I love doing the jumble. Why can’t they put the bad stuff in one section instead of spreading it around throughout the paper? Call it the murder, rape, war section. That way we could tell them: “I’ll take one Daily Star, hold the murder, rape and war.”
