Workspace

I don’t know where I picked up this little “fetish” but I’ve had it for longer than I can remember. I like clean sheets of paper and lot’s of brand new interesting pens. It must come from childhood. Sierra, my 5 year old daughter is generally pretty restless. When she’s in a restaurant with us, she can be difficult to keep still. But there’s one thing that almost always works. Give her a clean sheet of paper and a box of crayons. Bingo, she’s hard at work making a new masterpiece!

Sierra has never been to school, so we can rule that out as an influence. My best guess is that it comes from her art classes. I also had art classes when I was young (what child doesn’t?)

But the “clean sheet of paper” phenomenon manifests in other ways for me as well. I really really like clean desks. I can work on a messy desk and usually do, but a clean desk just gets the juices flowing. In effect, the desk is saying to you: “all your tasks are done. Pick a new task, spread it out and start working!”

I just took a picture of my desk:

Think I’ll do some math proofs for fun. Now where’s my stack of clean paper and pens!!
